Inside the RMS Titanic

RMS Titanic set sail for New York on 15th April 1912, from the port of Southampton and as we all are aware, the ship sank mid-way. The tragedy of the Titanic disaster was most felt by the city of Southampton, where more than 500 households lost a family member.   The story of the ship has fascinated me all throughout my childhood and while I was in the city, I seized the opportunity to visit the SeaCity museum, based at the heart of Southampton, which tells the story of the city, the people and of course, the unforgettable, RMS Titanic.

A reasonable fee is charged at the entrance; as I was a student I managed to get a student’s discount. 😛 . A huge section of the museum is dedicated to the ship. The exhibition took me through the story of titanic from before the ship sailed and i discovered how the crew worked on board, their duties, an interactive model of Titanic, audio recordings of passengers and some rare video footage. Along with this, artifacts like life jackets and a pocket watch are also on display.

I could actually feel how life was on board, both for customers as well the crew. The interactive methods made the entire experience really captivating and I came out with tremendous new information and a huge smile on my face. 🙂

If you happen to visit the south of England, have some spare time and are interested in history, then definitely visit the SeaCity museum.
